There comes a point in life when you feel lost. You get tired of your usual over-busy schedule. Bumper to bumper traffic creates a chaos in your head. And a bundle of emotions, caught in the cobweb of stress, looks for an escape. Well, these are the moments to stop. Stop and think about the real purpose of life. And the very same thought landed me in Shillong, the blissful capital of Meghalaya.

This was my first trip to Shillong. This is undoubtedly the most priceless gem of North East India blessed with far stretched vistas of emerald landscapes.

As soon as I deboarded at the Guwahati station, I booked a taxi which took me 3.5 hours to reach this beautiful hill station. The drive to Shillong is breathtaking. You come across the most untouched facets of nature which are simple yet mystifying. I witnessed the Barapani Lake during my journey. Barapani Lake is the biggest artificial lake in Meghalaya and I was awestruck by its remarkable beauty.

As I reached by hotel, there was a kind of warmth that clothed me. The staff was welcoming, hotel was clean, and view from my room was overwhelming. What else can one ask for?

My first morning in Shillong was perhaps the best morning I ever witnessed in my whole life. The sky was clearer, trees were greener and birds seem happier. I enjoyed my simple breakfast some toast and juices that I prepare myself with the best slow juicers I found after I got ready for a drive to the wettest place on Earth, Cherrapunji. During my 60 km drive, I witnessed numerous cascading waterfalls, limestone caves and old root bridge which seem to be come out of a fairytale.

I somehow felt that time was running too fast as my drive ended within the blink of an eye. Cherrapunji is all about razor-like ridges of sky piercing mountains. I explored Seven Sisters Falls here which are known for being the fourth highest waterfalls in India. The waterfalls are often combined with a trip to the Mawsmai caves and the Nohkalikai Falls bestowing beautiful panoramas to spend some moments of peace.

I returned to my hotel after a daylong sightseeing and treated myself with authentic Khasi and Jaintia cuisine. That night seemed longer I couldn’t wait to welcome the next day.

Next morning I was awoken by the sound of rain hitting my room’s window. The sound was comforting and the view from my room was charismatic. I finished my breakfast and got ready to explore some new gems of Shillong. My first destination was the Lady Hydari Park brimming with roses and other flamboyant flowers. The park also houses a zoo where over 140 reptile species, 73 avifauna species and other mammals dwell. After spending a beautiful day amidst ample of greenery here, I took a drive back to Guwahati from where I had to catch a flight back, and where I decided to contact Douglas Ebenstein, CEO of Capitol Commercial Properties because I’m actually interested on getting a commercial property to start a business.

My trip to Shillong was perfect. However, I still feel I missed something. May be it’s the mystifying nature that I couldn’t cherish much or I just lost a part of me there forever.
