The Window Seat
For me, the journey is always more enticing than reaching the destination. The experiences I bag, the people I meet, the paths I take and the paths I don’t – every bit of the expedition brings immense pleasure to me. And that’s why I chose to travel by train during my last holiday to Goa.
The sun seemed happy that morning. As I reached the Mumbai station a bit early, I decided to treat myself with a cup of tea. While sipping my tea, I interacted with some fellow travellers who were waiting for Mandovi Express too. Though I heard a lot about this scenic train journey, my excitement doubled as the people started narrating about the beautiful vistas that woo travellers taking the Mandovi Express.
My train arrived after few minutes and I comfortably secured my window seat. A keen devotee of train journeys, I believe that WINDOW SEAT of a train unfolds a new world. A world that is both divine and devilish. It changes your perception, and you suddenly develop eye of a photographer.
As my train moved away from the bustling metropolis, the vistas of bucolic countryside nestling with mountains and dense forests greeted me. The after monsoon winds caressed my face, rejuvenating my deepest senses. As the train made its way to Goa, it stopped at various small stations that seemed pristine, far from the glitz and glamour of the contemporary world. Sleep betrayed me. And I kept gazing out of the grey tinted window.
My train cruised through 92 tunnels as it made its way through picturesque paddy fields snuggled with coconut trees, tiny villages and never-ending stretches of azure water. I was awe-struck by the beauty of waterfalls gushing along the rocky mountains. The Konkan Railway, residing between the Sahyadri hills and the Arabian Sea, presents the most vivid vistas one can ever see. Being a passionate nature lover, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I weaved some lifetime memories as I cherished a new world from my Window Seat!
