When is the Fair Celebrated?

This beautiful fair is celebrated every year on the auspicious Kartik Purnima. The full moon day in the Hindu Lunar month of Kartik has been known to be auspicious, and pilgrims from far and wide come here to take a dip in the holy waters of the Pushkar Lake and pray to Lord Brahma. In 2018, the official dates for the Pushkar Fair are November 15-23.

What is the Religious Significance?

The Pushkar Fair has religious roots that attract pilgrims from around the world to take a dip in the holy water of Pushkar’s Lake. The two days around the full moon are considered to be the most auspicious time of the year for bathing in the lake. A holy dip in the lake is believed to wash away all your sins. Savor the beautiful sight of the desert landscape in the early sunrise hour or anytime of the day.

How has the journey been from then to now?

Originally, the Pushkar Camel Fair was to attract local camel and cattle traders. Today, the fair is to lure tourists with its astounding celebrations. Its oozing activities, cultural and musical events, thrilling camel safari tours and a stay in the traditional yet modern camps, are some of the major attractions of this fair.
